Background: Francois joined the firm as a candidate attorney in 1996, was appointed as a professional assistant in 1998, and became a director in 2002. He specialises in High Court litigation with emphasis on personal injury matters, family law and general litigation. He heads our Cape Town office and provides his services to a number of correspondent attorneys from the countryside. He was the Attorney of Record acting on behalf of the Rail Commuters Action Group and Others v. Transnet Ltd t/a Metrorail and Others, a ground breaking matter finalised in the Constitutional Court in terms of which a declaratory order was obtained to the effect that Metrorail have an obligation to ensure that reasonable measures are taken to provide for the safety and security of rail commuters.

Since Metrorail have yet to comply with the order, Francois continues litigating against Metrorail, assisting victims of train accidents in claims for personal injury. Francois enjoys reading both fiction and non-fiction, watching sports, and supporting his children in their various sporting and cultural activities.

Background: Marzanne joined the firm as a candidate attorney in 2004 and was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in the Western Cape High Court in February 2006. She was admitted as a notary in October 2010. She was appointed as an associate in 2008 and became an equity partner in 2016. Marzanne specialises in conveyancing in the Property Law and Conveyancing Department.

Background: Seugnet joined the firm in 2004 as a candidate attorney and was admitted as an attorney in the Western Cape High Court in February 2006. She was appointed as an associate in 2008 and a director in 2016.

Seugnet specialises in High Court as well as Magistrate Court litigation with emphasis on personal injury claims, family law and general litigation.

Seugnet enjoys sports and the outdoors.

Background: Regardt was admitted as attorney in the Western Cape High Court in February 2006 and specialises in High- and Magistrates Court litigation with particular emphasis on Contract and Family Law and the drafting of Commercial Contracts. He also provides services to a number correspondent attorneys.

Outside of normal business hours, he acts as a Commissioner (Presiding Officer) at the Small Claims Court in Bellville Magistrate’s Court and currently serves as Chairperson of the Tygerberg Attorneys Association. He also forms part of the BNI business referral network (Chapter: Forte - in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town).

Regardt enjoys running half marathons , watching sports and the outdoors.

Background: Izak joined Heyns and Partners Inc. as a candidate attorney during 2011 and was admitted as an attorney during February 2013.

Izak initially practiced at our now defunct Johannesburg office, where he attended to opposed foreclosure applications on behalf of a major South African bank. In that time he was also responsible for liquidation applications launched on behalf of several of our corporate clients.

With the closure of our Johannesburg office, Izak was transferred to our Goodwood office where he practice as a professional assistant.

Izak currently attends to general litigation cases and also assist a large number of correspondent attorneys with matters in the jurisdiction of surrounding magistrate courts.

He was the attorney of record for the reported case MvV 2016 ZAWCHC 44, in which the Cape Town High Court held that when parties married in community of property divorces whilst they are awaiting transfer of property from the Department of Human Settlements, such immovable property and its transfer must be regarded as an asset in the parties’ joint estate. Accordingly it stands to be awarded to or forfeited by one of the parties upon the divorce being finalised, despite the transferring of the immovable property occurring after divorce.
